![]() Starbase Omega, was originally commissioned as Starbase 173 in 2365, as a Federation Starbase originally located in Sector 23, close to the Romulan Neutral Zone. Initially under the command of Sector Commander Vice Admiral Nakamura, Starbase 173 remained in the service of Admiral until the beginning of the Dominion 10 years later. With hostiles with the Dominion mainly limited within the Alpha Quadrant, 173 was on constant alert for sneak attacks from the Romulan Star Empire. However this state was finally lowered when the Romulans finally entered the war after the death of one of their respected Tal'Shiar Officers after a classified meeting with Captain Sisko aboard Deep Space Nine. As months turned to years, the War finally came to an end and peace once again echoed around the Alpha and Beta Quadrants. With this peace also brought re-assignment for 173, as she was transferred from the command of Sector 23 and into the newly established Fleet of Eden, which was based several sectors away, but still along the Federation side of the Neutral Zone. Taking several weeks to be towed to its new location, Starbase 173 finally become the Headquarters of the small Fleet and was initially assigned to the command of the Fleet of Eden's Executive Officer: Vice Admiral Katrina Levinson. Also assigned to Starbase 173, was the newly commission USS Independence, NCC-2401 an Intrepid Class, which was also placed under the command of Admiral Levinson. As Fleet history states, the Fleet of Eden encountered a Romulan Splitter group named "The CLAW" who were hell bent on driving the Fleet away from the Romulan Natural Zone. As the group continued to play their war card, the made an unprovoked attack on the Starbase 173. With a huge loss of life, and the Station barely operable, the Fleet of Eden was ordered to pull back, and abandon the Starbase. As peace talks between the CLAW and the Federation began, Starbase 173's repair squadron arrived in preparation for the total refit of the Regula Class station. The work was to take a total of 6 months before the station was worthy of supporting life, as 2376 turned into 2377 the work was finally completed, just in time for the station to be towed to it's new location. Taking several months to reach the Mizar system, preparations are made for the station to become the command centre for all operations in the Alpha Quadrant. There she would meet the Starship assigned the newly commissioned USS Robert April, NCC-2347, an Akira class vessel, outfitted as a Torpedo Cruiser/Battle Cruiser. Thankfully for the Starbase, she see no action throughout 2377, until early in 2378 when a massive Fury battle Fleet attacks 173 and the Mizar. Showing she wasn't a station to be messed with, 173 gave as good as she got, managing to assist in driving off the invading Fleet without taking much damage. 2379 sees Starbase 173 being re-commissioned as Starbase Omega; after all Omega Fleet command functions are assigned to the Regula Class Starbase. Also assigned to Starbase Omega are dry-dock facilities and a ship construction yard, as well as academy facilities for advanced students. Assuming command is Rear Admiral Madigan Frost, the newly promoted Commanding Officer of the Omega Fleet. However there is little time for celebration as the Son'a begin an attack on the Federation in an attempt to wipe it out, after the incident in the Briar Patch some years earlier. Starbase Omega, along with the other Fleet vessels manage to drive the attacking force off, but at great cost to the Fleet, as many of the Fleet's vessel are left badly damage and require several months of refitting. With normality finally returning to the station and the Fleet; Starbase Omega is infiltrated by members from a rouge group in a similar Mirror Universe. Unable to handle the situation, Vice Admiral Frost has what can only be described as a mental break down, and locks down the station. After the actions of the USS Venture-B and USS Robert April-B, the Admiral is relieved of command, and the station is returned to normally operating perimeters. Upon completing required physical and mental tests, the Admiral is returned to active duty where the fall out of the incursion from the Mirror Universe is still on going. With the Robert April being refitted, her crew are assigned to Starbase Omega until a such that the Akira Class Ship is repaired. However a simple interim mission goes a wry as Q decides to pay the Station and Vice Admiral Frost a visit. As Q plays his usual fun and games with Omega Fleet, as a mysterious wave washes over the Regula Class Station, which reverts many members of the crew mental and physical appearance back several years; many becoming children once again. Thankfully Admiral Frost and his team manage to discover cure to the 'illness' that has swept over Starbase Omega. Shortly afterwards, Admiral Frost is re-called to Starfleet Command on Earth for a new assignment, command of the station is handed over to the Omega Fleet's new Commanding Officer; Vice Admiral T'Shek, with Rear Admiral John Jones becoming her Fleet and station Executive Officer.
